Chicago Alderman Proco “Joe” Moreno has joined hands with the official head of the Chicago political outfit, Mayor Emanuel, to block a small business planned for Logan Square – that would be a new Chick-fil-A restaurant that would employ workers, offer a popular chicken menu to the neighborhood, and add tax revenues to city coffers. But the owner, Dan Cathy, has gone a record for having personal religious views that favor marriage only between a man and a woman. Even liberal Chicago Tribune columnist Eric Zorn wrote today that a private businessman’s personal beliefs are Constitutionally protected. Wasn’t this why the pilgrims came over on the Mayflower?
Rahm Emanuel supports Ald. Moreno’s City Council block on the property because, he decrees, ”Chick-fil-A’s values are not Chicago’s values.” That’s kind of a scary idea – there may be other city businesses that don’t follow the Emanuel philosophy to the letter. But Moreno has a solid Democrat war chest, and an interesting list of high profile supporters. Here are some of the recent numbers from his campaign:

Great piece! Did Moreno have opposition in the last election?

I actually searched and could not find a primary opponent (or Republican).
