It has to be an uncomfortable first for the Machine Democrats (along with complicit establishment Illinois Republicans)  – with less than $13,000 in his campaign account, redemption candidate Paul McKinley siphoned off 22% of the voters. While the hand-picked Machine candidate managed to win, it cost the Machine multi-millions to put their replacement for Jesse Jackson Jr. through the door of the U.S. House of Representatives to fill out the Jackson term. As McKinley said at his victory party, “This is a door that will not close.” The campaign to free the IL 2nd District from the chains of the Machine begins right now.
