The Weekly Standard’s Steve Hayes reported in a tweet early this morning,
At the WWII Memorial, Carol Johnson w/the Park Service says they were told to close the site by White House’s Office of Management & Budget.
“Disgusting” sums up the reaction on Twitter, as Day 2 of the non-essential government bureaucracy shut-down set in. On Day 1, octogenarian and nonagenarian World War II veterans “stormed” the Park Service’s hastily-constructed barriers to their memorial in Washington. Many were on honor flights to celebrate their service and visit the memorial – most in the last chapter of their traveling lives.
More veterans were planning to visit the World War II memorial today to view its iconic bronze depictions of their service.
